Hi everyone, it’s Anne Watson again. Today, we are taking a look at the Roland RP-107. In this Roland RP107 review, we will discuss the four main components of this digital piano, including the sound, the key action, the design, and the onboard features.
The RP107 is a console-style digital piano with 88 keys, the successor to the Roland RP102. While this is an entry-level model in Roland’s RP series, I am impressed with the piano’s sound and touch for the price.

Simple Design
The RP107 has an elegant traditional piano cabinet design. It looks beautiful while not taking up too much space. The contemporary, high-quality satin black finish looks good and would complement any home decor.
Roland RP 107 only comes in black color with match music rest and key cover.
The RP-107 has a very simple front panel. There are four buttons on the left side that allow users to
- turn on/off the instrument
- adjust the sound volume up
- adjust the sound volume down, and
- change settings

To change settings such as tones and modes or turn on/off the metronome, you need to hold the Setting button and a piano key in the lower registration. You will most likely need to refer to the Owner’s Manual.
However, you can use the free Roland Piano App to make things easier. It allows you to remotely control the piano’s settings visually on your smartphone or tablet.
Moreover, when you connect the RP107 to the Roland Piano App, you get access to a huge selection of extra tones that are not available from the front panel.

The instrument has three pedals, just like a grand piano. The middle pedal enables the sostenuto function. The Sostenuto pedal is a variation of the sustain pedal that allows you to sustain selected notes, not the whole keyboard, like the sustain pedal.
High-Quality Sound

One of the most important attributes of any piano is its sound. Let’s review the sound of Roland RP107.
The sound quality of this piano is exceptional, thanks to its advanced SuperNATURAL piano sound engine. This technology captures the rich, nuanced tones of an acoustic piano, offering a highly expressive and dynamic playing experience.
The RP107’s sound engine meticulously recreates the complex interactions between strings and hammers, providing depth and realism that enhances both practice and performance. Whether playing delicate classical pieces or vibrant modern compositions, the RP107 delivers a full, resonant sound that responds beautifully to the player’s touch, making it a standout choice in its price range.
There are a total of 15 tones to choose from when you use the piano’s front panel:
- four different piano sounds and
- 11 other sounds
However, when you connect your piano with the Roland Piano App, you have access to more than 300 tones.
Polyphony
The RP-107 features 256 maximum notes polyphony, which is rare in entry-level digital pianos. The polyphony means the number of notes that the piano can be played simultaneously.
256-note polyphony can accommodate skilled players to perform complex piano pieces without dropping notes
Expensive Key Action

On every piano, the feel is as important as the sound.
The RP-107 uses Roland’s acclaimed PHA-4 action with a triple-sensor system. This action is also found on the much more expensive Roland HP702 digital piano, which is part of Roland’s premium HP series.
The keys closely mimic the acoustic piano with escapement, that is, the click at the very bottom of the key when you press lightly. Combined with the non-slip ivory-simulated surface, the keys give you excellent control and enable fast repetitions of notes, just like playing an acoustic grand piano.
This action is great for beginners as they gain confidence, but it also keeps the advanced players happy as the action feels solid. This attention to detail in key action ensures that both beginners and experienced players can enjoy a satisfying and engaging performance.
Core Features and Connectivity

The Roland RP107 offers some convenient features that are useful for practice, teaching, and enjoying the playing experience in general.
- Twin Piano Mode: You can split the keyboard into two sections, left and right, allowing two people to play simultaneously within the same pitch range. This feature creates the effect of two pianos being played together. The keyboard is divided into two zones, with the split centered around middle C (C4).
- Dual Play Mode: This allows you to layer two tones. To activate dual play mode, hold the Setting button and press two keys at the same time to select two different tones.
- Recording: The onboard MIDI recorder lets you record your play to the piano’s memory. Additionally, you can record your play on a flash memory stick using the USB Type-A slot. Moreover, you can record your performances directly to your smart devices using the Roland Piano App.
- Metronome: The onboard metronome is a valuable tool for players. It helps you maintain a consistent tempo during practice and performance. This function is especially beneficial for developing rhythmic accuracy and timing, ensuring you stay on beat and improve your overall musical precision.
Roland RP107 Connectivity
One of the best features of the RP107 is its Bluetooth MIDI and Bluetooth Audio connectivity. The Bluetooth Audio lets you stream music or tutorials from your smart devices directly to the piano’s built-in speaker system.
Bluetooth technology changes the way people learn to play or use the piano. Learners and players can download the piano apps for Apple iOS and Android tablets and phones.
In addition, USB Type A and USB Type B connections are available for using a flash memory drive or connecting to your computer.
The Utilities of the Roland Piano App
This review of Roland RP107 is not complete without discussing the Roland Piano App.
The Roland RP 107 is compatible with the Roland Piano App. The app enhances the capabilities of Roland digital pianos by offering a range of utilities and features designed to support learning, practice, and performance.
Besides using the app to manage the piano settings and choose from over 300 voices, you get to access a vast library of songs, exercises, and interactive tutorials, making practice sessions more engaging and effective.
The app allows for easy recording and playback, enabling you to track your progress and identify areas for improvement. It also provides detailed sheet music and scores, which can be displayed on a tablet or smartphone for convenient reference.
Additionally, the app includes various educational games and activities that make learning fun for beginners. It also includes many classical teaching staples, such as Burgmüller, Hannon, and Cherny, and popular songs like Für Elise.
The integration of Bluetooth connectivity ensures seamless communication between the piano and the app, offering an intuitive and interactive experience that enhances the overall musical journey.

The RP107 is a digital piano designed to provide a high-quality playing experience. It is aimed at beginners and intermediate players looking for a reliable and affordable instrument.
After assessing the sound, key action, design, and features in this Roland RP107 review, let’s summarize its pros and cons.
- Sound Quality: The RP 107 features Roland’s SuperNATURAL piano sound engine, which delivers rich, detailed tones that closely mimic an acoustic piano.
- Keyboard Feel: The PHA-4 Standard keyboard offers an authentic touch, with ivory-feel keys and escapement, making it a pleasure to play.

- Educational Features: The piano includes a metronome, recording functions, and compatibility with the Roland Piano app, which allows remote control of the settings and supports learning and practice routines.
- Lack of Advanced Features: Compared to higher-end models, the RP107 might lack some advanced features and customization options that seasoned players might look for, such as onboard drum pads.
- Minimum onboard controls: Onboard selection is limited, with only 15 voices available. Users will rely on the Roland Piano App to select more voices and songs.
- Low Speaker Output Power: The total of 16W output is not considered powerful. While it is enough for home use, it may not be sufficient for a larger lounge or studio.
Conclusion and Our Verdict

It’s great to see that a compact and affordable piano like RP107 can sound and feel so authentic in a sleek design and many features, especially with the Roland Piano App.
It is ideal for beginners to start out and for advanced players to enjoy.
This authenticity is largely thanks to Roland’s proprietary Behavioral Modeling Chip (BMC), which powers the SuperNATURAL piano technology. This gives the RP107 a genuine piano tone and behaves just like an acoustic piano.
The Roland RP107 is a solid upgrade over its predecessor, the RP102, with significant enhancements in sound quality and key action.
While it may lack some advanced features found in higher-end models, its combination of affordability, quality, and modern conveniences make it an excellent choice for beginners and intermediate players looking for a reliable digital piano.
